Victoria Park

Community and Leisure

Victoria Park is a 17 acre park in the centre of Ashford in Kent. The central hub area contains a private nursery, public toilets and some degraded playgrounds. Kaner Olette have developed a scheme to retrofit and extend the existing buildings to create a fresh identity for the centre of the park with new community facilities and integrated into the wider park improvements led by Allen Scott.

The layout is developed around a U shaped plan with generous terraces on three sides. A new cafe and community space faces the main axis to the exuberant Hubert Fountain. The nursery layout is completely re-aligned with new secure entrance and protected external play area.

The remodelled building has a PV cell array on the cafe roof, heating via air source heat pumps and a mechanical heat recovery ventilation system. Daylight is dropped into deep plan spaces via rooflights and the external envelope is clad with insulation and vertical cedar boards

Construction has just started on site and is due for completion in spring 2023
