Ridley’s Court
Community and Heritage
Owned by Sir Joseph Montefiore, Ridleys Court was built in 1882 within Worth Park. The main house of the estate was demolished in 1968 and now the courtyard building stands alone within the public park. The upper floors had been converted to private apartments while the lower floor were used for council parks storage.
The task for Kaner Olette with this project was to create new spaces that would allow for greater public use of the ground floor of the building. This took the form of converting spaces into community meeting spaces, kitchen, interpretation rooms, park office and public toilets.
Great care was taken to ensure historic details were retained and conserved. Insensitive 1960s interventions were replaced and the original frontage and carved frieze fully restored and enhanced with new bath stone carvings.
