Updating a listed building comes with the seemingly contradictory challenge of bringing a building to modern standards and improving its usability as a modern space - without compromising the building’s historic nature.

The Orleans House Gallery project required careful consideration and sympathetic design. Undoing the damage of previous revisions to the building - bricking up windows and demolishing some of the north wing - was key to the project, as was reinterpreting the spaces to suit the requirements of a modern public gallery.
