Working with Zedworks
We have been working with Zedworks (formerly Design and Weld) for a number of years on a variety of projects with different challenges. We enjoy working with ‘makers’ who contribute positively to the client’s brief and the architectural aspirations. The process with Zedworks has always been highly collaborative with ideas moving both ways and the design always develops and refines through this.
The early stages need the budget constraints and the general intent to be set out clearly. Through the use of a mix of 3D CAD modelling/rendering, hand sketching, talking, physical modelling, practical engineering and creating prototypes the ideas are rigorously explored. This spans from the overall concept through materiality, finishes and critical junctions. We enjoy learning from Zedwork’s knowledge of available materials and what can be achieved during fabrication (and what cannot). Several of our recent projects such as Hampshire Watermill and Trinity Theatre Clocktower have had extremely constrained sites. This has meant that the construction logistics have had to be built into the design from the outset with component sizes, fixing methods and sequence with a subsequent direction given to the architectural approach.
We look forward to seeing our collaboration continuing for many projects to come!
