Orchard Barn

Private Residential

The challenge with any barn conversion is creating a practical living space without losing the essence of the building with its large and lofty ceilings, its sense of space and openness.

At Orchard Barn, Kaner Olette tried to retain this feeling through large windows leading onto stunning views, an open central living space and using mezzanine ‘pods’ inserted to either side of the barn - at once retaining the loftiness and introducing cosy living spaces. Large rooflights drop daylight deep into the rooms and the simple larch and metal claddings and large Crittal style metal framed retain the agricultural feel of the building.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are attached to the east of the main space, allowing the barn-proper to remain uncluttered and open.

  • “Open-plan living has helped us to achieve what we envisaged – the ability to spend more time together as a family… The interaction of the hatches and the views you get through the steel frames into the main space are really clever.”
