Dutch Barn

Private Residential

Redundant agricultural structures may be converted into residential buildings under permitted development rights subject to certain conditions. This project saw a former Dutch barn turned into a contemporary home for a private client.

Retaining the existing floor size was a specific requirement and so careful manipulation of space was paramount in the design of the project. Orientation to give beautiful views at both levels was also a consideration in the design.

The result is a pre-weathered zinc clad home with a unique curved roof. At its centre is a double height central hall space which exposes the historic metal frame tying the building to its agricultural past.
